Everyone agrees that a safe workplace is important.
Demonstrating your commitment to safety will ensure that everyone in your business is clear about their health and safety responsibilities.
Everyone involved at your workplace needs to be considered when developing a safety process.
Valuing your staff members’ contributions and involving them in decisions on the use of personal protective equipment will improve staff productivity and build a positive safety culture within the workplace.

Some points to consider when introducing a new staff member or simply reacquainting all staff members with the safety culture at your workplace:

  • New employees should be trained in the safety policies and practices of your business.
All employees should be kept familiar and made aware of any changes to these policies.
  • A notice board can advertise any changes made to policy, updates in current safety practices and any actions that have been made to improve safety within your workplace.
  • Reinforce policies and practice – e.g. manual handling – with posters or signage.
  • Ensure all employees are familiar with the site evacuation plan.
  • All exits, location of fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, first aid kits, & contact infomation for emergency services should be clearly marked and accessible.
  • Store all workplace chemicals in a chemical storage area with correct signage in place.
Have quick & easy access to materials safety data sheets.
  • Ensure that fire extinguishers & first aid kits are full and up to date.
  • Have clearly defined pedestrian access and machine operating areas.
  • Walkways and stairs should be well lit, all exits kept clear of obstructions, and the general work area kept tidy and free of rubbish.
